Claudia Caluori, Eptalex Senior Foreign Counsel in Beirut, participated in the three-day International Mediation Symposium organized by the Center for International Legal Studies (CILS) in Salzburg, Austria from the 13th until the 16th of June.
The Symposium is a gathering of dispute resolution specialists (attorneys, mediators, judges, academics) and users of mediation to discuss issues arising from the practices and to consider the development of the field. The overall theme for the 2019 symposium was the diversity in mediation from a multicultural perspective. The participants joined the lively discussions from all over the world: USA, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.
Claudia was both a co-chair and a moderator in two panels. The first one was titled: “The Changing faces of mediation” a journey from Abu Dhabi (UAE), to Turkey, up to Austria and then to Malaysia, and the second one was about “Technology and Mediation” which explored the current and future perspective of technology integration and artificial intelligence.
Claudia highlighted that: “as mentioned in the opening remarks on Thursday, the organization of the Symposium with CILS and the other chairs was an amazing and challenging experience that made us work for almost two full years, since the end of the previous event.”
” We brought together excellent practitioners – lawyers and mediators – who use mediation as a dispute prevention or resolution method in the legal field, but also in-house counsels interested in applying mediation in the multinational context of their companies, and a scientist that uses mediation skills to protect the wild life in Borneo. Many ideas were shared, and innovative concepts have to be developed for the next Symposium that will be held in 2021,” she added.
